Interview

Romeo Cuc et. al

Romeo Cuc et. al: “We propose a playful excursion into the urban public space and an examination of the generations’ collective memory belonging to latest decade.”

The team of visual artists representing Romania at the Venice Architectural Biennial will display also an installation in the DespreLocuire exhibition. Voices / Mnemonics includes a model of housing ensemble types and a documentary containing interviews about the life in an apartment block, about childhood and games and their relationship to public space.

Vlad Odobescu: What sort of experience do you propose to visitors?

Through the MNEMONICS project, we (the authors of the 2018 Venice Architectural Biennial) propose a playful excursion into the urban public space and an examination of the generations’ collective memory belonging to the latest decades.

How did you come up with this solution?

Personal and collective reflections on the generation who grew up ‘with the house key pending around one’s neck’ budded into stories from our childhood spent among apartment blocks, stories which are defined by creativity, freedom, context and social interaction.

What do you [the representative of your team who answers these questions, editor’s note] think a good place for living in should look like?

A good place to live in is that mini-universe encapsulating, at various levels, elements such as density, community, neighborhood, humanity, stories, play, leisure, home, families, one capable of generating memories.
