TRANSITE: Light Installation | Project Exhibition Opening

An event that is part of a wider strategy of cultural revitalization of different parts of the city, in the context of winning the title of European Capital of Culture in 2021, focuses on the space of the main train station of Timișoara- Gara de Nord. Deployed in an emblematic place of the city, TRANSITE grows around the concept of symbiosis, exploring the connections created at different scales.

On the one hand there will be the opening of the contest exhibition and the award of the winners, competition which aims to transform the central hall from the North Railway Station of Timisoara from a transit space into an interaction one, following that in October to be built the winning project.

Also, as a response to the concept of European Capital of Culture- ”Shine your light / Light up your city”, will be inaugurated the light installation designed by light artists Neil Musson and Jono Retallick, known as the group [M+R]. The location of the installation- the main hall and train platform- was chosen by artists as a result of an historical and social study of the place in order to offer a true answer to the dynamics of people who transits the space. Using the light in an interactive way helps increasing the identity of the place creating a feeling of belonging, transforming the train station in a cultural place of meetings and synergies.

Graduates of the Royal College of Art and Winchester School of Art, lighting artists Neil Musson and Jono Retallick, support their interventions in public space on a historical and social study of the place to better understand the dynamics of the local community. The artistic response uses material textures, sound, movement, and incorporates light as an interactive element for improving the sense of belonging to the community.
