Because the built environment – especially the architecture of our homes – is a concern of all of us, we believe that teaching children elementary concepts of architecture and organizing the space of our homes is essential.
On the background of the On Housing exhibition, we propose a workshop that introduces concepts related to the colonization of a space, dimensions, relations between buildings- neighbourhood, privacy, distance, etc- at the same time teaching them how to negotiate these attributes with each other, all through experiential learning methods that use creativity, curiosity, communication skills and team spirit.
And in order to get to know each other better, we invite the children enrolled in the workshop to bring with them a character – the favorite toy, the bear, the doll, … – to build around it a suitable home that meets the needs and preferences of the character. We will watch a day in the character’s life, how he sleeps, how he eats, how he goes to school, where and how he likes to play, who love to play with, how he does his homework, how he spends time with his family. We will see together which spaces are absolutely necessary for the character inside the home, and what are the favorite places outside the home, what do we need in the neighborhood. At the end of the workshop, each child will show us the character, his little house and one day of his life.
The workshop is organized in partnership with De-a Arhitectura Association – one of the main actors in the field of architectural and built environment education for children and young people.
In short, the goal of De-a Arhitectura Association translates best as follows:
We build through education. Our construction develops when:
– children and adults understand and love the values of the built environment and are active in their communities;
– build environment professionals engage in society through education;
– In education, play, experiment and creativity are taken seriously.
The workshop is aimed in particular at parents with children aged 6-12, giving them the opportunity to visit the exhibition, during which children participate in this activity.
The participation is possible only after the online registration by completing this form.
