72% of Romania’s urban population lives in housing blocks, but do we really know much about where we live? Furthermore, if we find ourselves in the prospect of buying an apartment, do we know what to look for in order to find our ideal home?
We spend about 87% of our time indoors and a considerable part of that percentage at home, and this space influences our health, our life quality and our wellbeing in extremely complex ways. However, when we have to choose an apartment, we end up choosing based on subjective criteria even though there are countless objective methods to make an informed decision.
These are the hypotheses of the Unde Locuiesc Eu guide, an educational material that aims to help future buyers to understand their subjective identity and spatial needs, to create an evaluation chart for their future home. The guide follows the entire decision making process, starting from large-scale observations of the entire neighbourhood and of the way it’s linked to the rest of the city, to the different types of neighbourhoods and buildings, to the way the floorplan and the finishes affect our daily lives, up until how to plan a financial strategy, the apartment hunt and the entire buying process.
The guide focuses exclusively on collective housing and on apartments’ characteristics, this being one of the most sought after and sold products on the real estate market at the time.
